Description

Abreu Cappella Proprietary Red 2012 is a rare and highly sought-after Napa Valley red from one of St. Helena’s oldest vineyard sites. First planted in 1869 and painstakingly replanted by David Abreu, Cappella reflects both historic pedigree and an uncompromising pursuit of quality.

Tasting Notes
Deep blue to nearly inky in appearance, the 2012 Cappella is notably expressive and polished. The nose shows lifted notes of mint and lavender over dense dark fruit, while the palate is marked by soft tannins, impressive balance, and concentrated fruit with a deep, almost ink-like intensity. Despite its richness, the wine maintains a refined structure and plenty of extract, giving it both immediate appeal and the backbone to age gracefully. While approachable earlier than some Napa collectibles, it should continue to develop complexity over time.

Production
Cappella is a small 2.5-hectare site in St. Helena with vine history dating back to 1869. After being cleared and left fallow for years, the vineyard was carefully replanted under David Abreu’s direction, with the entire site eventually regenerated to ensure uniform vine age and ripening. This meticulous approach reflects Abreu’s perfectionist farming philosophy and helps produce wines of exceptional consistency and precision.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Franc-led Bordeaux-style red pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, or game dishes with earthy sauces. Serve at around 16-18°C and consider decanting for 1-2 hours to allow the wine’s aromatics and layered structure to open fully.

Producer
Abreu Vineyards, led by famed viticulturist David Abreu, is one of Napa Valley’s most respected names in premium wine. Known for its obsessive vineyard standards and work with elite sites, the estate has earned an exceptional reputation for producing wines of depth, purity, and longevity from some of California’s finest terroirs.
