Aalto 2021

Aalto 2021 is a powerful yet polished Ribera del Duero red that showcases 100% Tempranillo from old vines, many between 40 and 80 years of age. Carefully parcel-selected and matured in French and American oak, it balances intensity with finesse and reflects the modern benchmark style that has made Aalto one of the region’s most admired names.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby core with violet highlights, a sign of its youthful energy and concentrated fruit. The nose is expressive and layered, with blackberry, blackcurrant, vanilla, toasted oak, spice, liquorice, and subtle tobacco, lifted by balsamic and herbal nuances. The palate is full-bodied and generous, with ripe tannins that provide structure without feeling aggressive. Fresh acidity keeps the wine balanced, while the long finish unfolds with dark fruit, spice, cocoa, roasted wood, and a touch of minerality. It has the concentration and balance to age beautifully over the next several years.

Production
Aalto 2021 comes from Ribera del Duero in Castilla y León, where old-vine Tempranillo grows on carefully selected parcels that contribute depth, concentration, and complexity. The grapes are harvested with great care and vinified separately by parcel before undergoing fermentation and 16–18 months of ageing in a combination of French and American oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, which adds spice and texture without overpowering the fruit.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for grilled lamb, roast beef, slow-cooked game, Iberian pork, and rich dishes with mushrooms or dark sauces. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the oak, tannin, and layered fruit to open fully.
