Aalto 2016 Magnum

Aalto 2016 Magnum is a mature and expressive take on one of Ribera del Duero’s most respected Tempranillo wines. Sourced from old-vine fruit and carefully selected parcels, it combines power, finesse, and the cellaring appeal that has made Aalto a benchmark name in modern Spanish red wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark colour that hints at its concentration and depth. The nose is elegant and layered, with ripe dark berries, spice, tobacco, and subtle notes of vanilla and roasted coffee from oak ageing. The palate is broad and harmonious, with silky tannins, a fresh core, and excellent balance between fruit, structure, and oak. The 2016 vintage is already beautifully drinking, yet it still has the concentration and balance to age gracefully for several more years.

Production
Aalto 2016 Magnum is made from Tempranillo sourced from 40-80-year-old vines on selected leased parcels in Ribera del Duero, along with younger vines from Aalto’s own vineyards in Valladolid. All grapes are hand-harvested and meticulously sorted to ensure only the best fruit is used. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 16 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak barrels, which gives it complexity, polish, and structure.

Food & Serving
This is a natural match for grilled beef, roast lamb, game, and richly flavoured dishes such as braised short ribs or mushroom-based plates. Serve at 16-18°C, and consider decanting for 1-2 hours to let the aromas fully open, especially in its younger drinking window.
