The 2023 Chardonnay trocken from Clemens Rosenkranz is a refined Rheingau white that combines Burgundian depth with the precision and mineral drive of Hochheim. Grown on limestone- and clay-rich soils close to the Main River, it stands out for its elegant structure, layered complexity, and subtle use of oak.

Tasting Notes
Bright and poised in the glass, this Chardonnay shows a polished pale golden hue. The nose opens with yellow stone fruit, citrus, and white blossoms, followed by delicate notes of nuts, butter, and a faint smoky edge. On the palate, it is both taut and creamy, with vibrant acidity and a salty limestone minerality that gives the wine shape and length. The finish is long, elegant, and finely textured, with enough depth to reward short- to medium-term aging.

Production
The grapes come from a densely planted site in Hochheim, where the influence of the Main River and the limestone-clay soils create naturally concentrated and expressive fruit. Vinification takes place in half-sized barrels and pièces, with around 20% new oak, followed by 12 months on the full lees and another 12 months of maturation in stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulfur to preserve its pure terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled fish, shellfish, poultry, creamy dishes, mushrooms, and refined vegetarian cuisine. Serve at 10–12 °C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help if opened young.
