Clemens Rosenkranz’ 2022 Spätburgunder trocken from Hochheim in the eastern Rheingau is a finely crafted Pinot Noir that combines Burgundian finesse with the cool precision of its home region. Grown on deep clay and limestone soils with the influence of the Main River, it offers a particularly elegant, terroir-driven style that stands out in the Rheingau.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, inviting color and a fresh, lifted aromatic profile. Expect red berries, cherry and summer fruits, layered with subtle smoke and delicate spice. On the palate, the wine is precise, concentrated and elegant, with juicy fruit, lively acidity and finely grained tannins that give it a cool, structured feel. The finish is long, quietly spicy and refined, and while it is already very attractive now, it has the structure to develop beautifully over the next few years.

Production
The vines grow in Hochheim on deep clay and limestone soils, a terroir that naturally supports balance, freshness and elegance. The grapes are selectively hand-harvested early to preserve freshness and definition, then undergo cold maceration and open fermentation, in part with whole clusters. The wine matures for 12 months in French pièces, around 20% new oak, followed by another 12 months in stainless steel before being bottled unfiltered.

Food & Serving
This Spätburgunder pairs beautifully with poultry, veal, mushroom dishes and refined herb-driven cuisine, and it also works well with roasted fish or mature cheeses. Serve it at 14–16 °C, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
