The 2021 Vogelsang Riesling Kabinett from Domäne Serrig is a beautifully precise Saar Riesling shaped by steep blue and grey slate slopes and Markus Molitor’s meticulous handcraft. Light on its feet yet intensely expressive, it combines classic Kabinett charm with crystalline minerality and striking tension. Since Molitor took over the site in 2016, the vineyard has been brought into a new level of detail and purity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this is a pale, luminous Riesling with a delicate, almost translucent appearance. The nose opens with flint, slate, citrus zest, and apple blossom, followed by ginger, anise, and cool herbal spice. On the palate it is feather-light but remarkably energetic, with only 9.5% alcohol and a vivid line of acidity. Grapefruit, blood orange, and salty mineral notes carry the wine, while the subtle sweetness stays in the background. The finish is long, crystalline, and highly precise, and the wine should age beautifully over the coming years, gaining depth while retaining its freshness.

Production
Domäne Serrig is a unique monopole site on the Saar, planted entirely to Riesling and rooted in steep slate soils that lend the wines their cool, mineral-driven character. The grapes for this Kabinett were harvested selectively by hand, ensuring only healthy fruit made it into the cellar. Fermentation took place spontaneously in stainless steel, followed by 10 months on the fine lees and additional time in bottle to build balance, finesse, and inner tension.

Food & Serving
This Kabinett is a superb match for sushi, Thai curry, shellfish, and Asian dishes with ginger and lime, where its acidity and subtle sweetness complement bright, aromatic flavors. It also pairs well with goat cheese or light desserts, and is equally rewarding served as an aperitif or enjoyed on its own. Best served well chilled, around 8–10°C; decanting is not necessary.
