Description

La Dame de Montrose is the second wine of Château Montrose, one of the great classified estates of Saint-Estèphe. It offers a more approachable expression of the château’s signature style, combining Médoc structure, elegance, and clear terroir character. The 2021 vintage reflects the estate’s classic pedigree in a beautifully composed and accessible form.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, polished ruby hue. The nose opens with ripe cherry, cassis, and blackberry, layered with violet, tobacco, and graphite for a distinctly Bordeaux profile. The palate is classic and precise, with a firm but refined tannic frame and a cool, structured feel. It develops nicely with air, gaining depth and finesse, while the finish is long, mineral, and well-balanced. The 2021 vintage is built for early to medium-term enjoyment, though it should also reward a few years of cellaring.

Production
The vineyards of Château Montrose sit close to the Gironde, where the river helps moderate temperatures and creates a balanced microclimate ideal for Cabernet-driven wines. La Dame de Montrose is made from carefully selected parcels and harvested by hand, with vinification carried out parcel by parcel to preserve the identity of each site. It is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels, with a restrained amount of new wood to emphasize finesse, balance, and terroir expression.

Food & Serving
A superb match for lamb, beef, veal, and mature cheeses, this wine also fits naturally into refined dining menus. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended, especially if drinking young, to help the wine open and show its full aromatic range.

Producer
Château Montrose is one of the most respected estates in Saint-Estèphe and is classified as a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Known for producing powerful yet elegant wines with remarkable aging potential, the estate has long held a special place in the Médoc. La Dame de Montrose reflects that reputation in a more approachable and versatile style, while still carrying the unmistakable hallmark of the château.
