Penfolds Yattarna Bin 144 Chardonnay 2018 is the flagship expression of one of Australia’s most ambitious white wine projects, created to pursue the country’s ultimate Chardonnay. Sourced from some of the coolest and most highly regarded vineyards in Tasmania, the Adelaide Hills, and other top South Australian sites, it combines Burgundian precision with unmistakable Australian energy.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows exceptional purity and intensity, with a refined pale gold hue. The nose opens with white peach, nectarine, lemon zest, and grapefruit, layered with brioche, toasted hazelnut, crushed stone, wild herbs, and a subtle flinty smokiness. The palate is taut, concentrated, and beautifully structured, balancing a creamy mid-palate with vibrant acidity and a chalky mineral line. Notes of citrus, stone fruit, saline freshness, and gentle oak complexity carry through to a long, elegant finish. This is a wine with outstanding aging potential and will reward careful cellaring for many years, potentially decades.

Production
Yattarna is crafted only from the best Chardonnay parcels of the vintage, hand-harvested from cool-climate vineyards chosen for their finesse and natural acidity. The grapes are gently pressed, then fermented in French barriques, with a portion undergoing malolactic fermentation to build texture and complexity. The wine is matured on fine lees for several months, a process that adds depth, precision, and remarkable longevity.

This Chardonnay is a superb match for lobster, scallops, turbot, and other fine seafood dishes, as well as truffle chicken, sweetbreads, or elegant French cuisine. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and consider brief decanting if you want to open up its layered aromatics before serving.
