The 2018 Spätburgunder “B” trocken from Weingut Breuer is a graceful Rheingau Pinot Noir with a distinctly Burgundian sensibility. Sourced from carefully selected sites around Rüdesheim and Rauenthal, it combines ripe fruit, subtle spice, and refined minerality in a classic, understated style.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright ruby-red colour with an elegant, transparent profile typical of cool-climate Spätburgunder. The nose opens with red berries, sour cherry, earthy notes, and a fine hint of spice. On the palate, it is juicy and well balanced, with fine-grained tannins, moderate acidity, and a smooth, harmonious finish. The 2018 vintage delivered a warmer, riper expression, giving the wine immediate appeal while still preserving freshness and structure. It has the poise to develop further over the next few years, though its charm is already very accessible now.

Production
The grapes come from selected vineyards around Rüdesheim and Rauenthal, where schist, quartzite, and loess soils provide both structure and a distinct mineral edge. The fruit was harvested by hand and carefully sorted before vinification. Fermentation took place spontaneously, followed by ageing in used barriques to support the wine’s texture without masking its delicate fruit.

This Spätburgunder pairs beautifully with game, roast poultry, mushroom dishes, and autumn-inspired cuisine. Serve it slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider brief decanting if opened young to let the aromas fully unfold.
