Description

Egly-Ouriet’s 1er Cru “Vignes de Bisseuil” Brut is a terroir-driven Champagne that combines precision, depth, and elegance in a distinctly artisanal style. Sourced from Premier Cru parcels in Bisseuil on the Montagne de Reims, it reflects the estate’s commitment to low yields, sustainable farming, and minimal intervention winemaking, with a history rooted in one of Champagne’s most respected grower-producers.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with ripe apple, pear, and citrus zest, layered with brioche, toasted almonds, and a subtle chalky minerality. The palate is powerful yet focused, with a vibrant line of acidity and a creamy texture that carries through to a long, saline finish. Its structure and depth give it excellent short- to medium-term aging potential, where the autolytic and mineral nuances can continue to evolve beautifully.

Production
The vines grow in Premier Cru vineyards in Bisseuil, an area of the Montagne de Reims known for its chalk-rich limestone soils and cool climate, both of which help preserve freshness and precision. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wine is traditionally vinified, with part of the base wine aged in oak barrels before the secondary fermentation takes place in bottle. It then spends several years on lees, building complexity, texture, and a refined, low-dosage expression of its origin.

Food & Serving
This Champagne is ideal as an aperitif, but it also shines with oysters, shellfish, grilled fish, and delicate poultry dishes with light sauces. It pairs especially well with aged Comté. Serve chilled at 10–12 °C; decanting is not necessary, although a few minutes in the glass will help the aromas open fully.

Producer
Egly-Ouriet is one of Champagne’s most acclaimed grower-estates, known for producing powerful, terroir-focused wines with exceptional depth and aging capacity. Based in Ambonnay, the house has built its reputation on meticulous vineyard work, low yields, and careful barrel use, earning a strong following among Champagne enthusiasts and critics alike for its precision and sense of place.
