Description
Weingut Rings Riesling KREID Bio 2023 is a vibrant, organically farmed Riesling from Germany’s sun-drenched Pfalz region, crafted to showcase purity, precision and minerality. The name “KREID” (German for chalk) hints at the wine’s stony backbone and cool, linear style, making it a standout for lovers of dry, terroir-driven whites. With only a limited number of bottles available, this vintage offers a fresh snapshot of one of Pfalz’s most dynamic estates at the top of its game.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the Weingut Rings Riesling KREID Bio 2023 shows a pale straw color with greenish reflections, underscoring its youth and freshness. The nose is finely etched and precise: think freshly squeezed lime, green apple and white peach, layered with crushed chalk, wet slate and a hint of lemon blossom and herbal lift.
On the palate, this is a taut, dry Riesling with a racy acidity that carries bright citrus and orchard fruit flavors—lime zest, grapefruit, green apple—over a distinctly saline, mineral core. The texture is sleek and focused rather than opulent, with a long, mouthwatering finish that leaves a chalky, almost smoky mineral impression. Enjoy it now for its energy and clarity, or cellar it for 3–6 years to allow the fruit and minerality to knit together and gain additional complexity.
Production
The KREID Riesling hails from organically farmed vineyards in the northern Pfalz, where relatively cool nights and limestone and chalk-influenced soils help preserve acidity and imprint the wine with its trademark mineral signature. Yields are kept low and grapes are harvested by hand, ensuring only perfectly ripe and healthy fruit makes it to the cellar. At Weingut Rings, gentle pressing and a cool, controlled fermentation—often in stainless steel with extended time on fine lees—are employed to protect aromatic intensity and highlight the clarity of fruit and terroir. The result is a clean, precise, and authentic expression of Pfalz Riesling that lets the chalky soils take center stage.
Food & Serving
This Riesling is a versatile food partner, especially well-suited to delicate yet flavorful dishes. Try it with ceviche, sushi and sashimi, grilled or poached white fish, or simple shellfish like prawns, mussels and oysters. It also pairs beautifully with light poultry dishes, fresh goat’s cheese, salads with citrus dressings and mildly spiced Asian cuisine (think lemongrass, ginger and coriander rather than heavy chilies). Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not essential, but pouring the wine into a larger glass and giving it a few minutes in the glass will help open up the aromatics.
Producer
Weingut Rings is a family-run estate in Freinsheim in the Pfalz, which has quickly risen from insider tip to one of Germany’s most respected modern wineries. Founded as a small mixed farm, the estate underwent a quality revolution when the next generation took over, focusing rigorously on low yields, sustainable and organic viticulture, and precise, terroir-driven winemaking. Today, Weingut Rings is celebrated for its crystalline Rieslings and powerful yet finely balanced Spätburgunders, and is regarded as a key voice in the new wave of Pfalz producers redefining the region’s international reputation. Their commitment to organic practices and meticulous vineyard work has earned them critical acclaim and a loyal following among discerning wine lovers.
