Weingut P.J. Kühn’s 2022 Doosberg Großes Gewächs is a dry Rheingau Riesling from one of Oestrich’s notable vineyard sites. The estate gives its Grosses Gewächse extended time to mature before release, favouring complexity and poise over immediacy.

Tasting Notes

Production
The Doosberg vineyard rises from the banks of the Rhine to around 150 metres above sea level on Oestrich’s eastern side. Its soils are described as deep, carbonate-rich loess and loam over quartzite. For its Grosses Gewächse, the estate allows extended maturation, first on full lees and then on fine lees, followed by further rest in bottle before release.

Food & Serving
Serve with roast or grilled fish, shellfish, poultry, or dishes featuring herbs and gentle spice. A serving temperature of around 10–12°C will let the wine’s aromas develop while keeping it fresh. Decanting is not essential, but a little time in the glass—or a brief decant if the wine seems reserved—can help it open.
