Description

From the VDP.Große Lage Mandelberg in Birkweiler, this 2023 Weißer Burgunder is a single-site Pinot Blanc shaped by lean shell-limestone soils and a sheltered east-facing position. Its Großes Gewächs designation marks it as a top dry wine from a classified VDP vineyard, with the estate noting considerable potential for cellaring.

Tasting Notes
The nose offers ripe yellow-fruit aromas of pear, papaya and pineapple, framed by the mineral character associated with Mandelberg’s limestone soils. Production
The vines grow in a wind-sheltered, east-facing parcel on sparse shell-limestone formed around 240 million years ago. In the demanding 2023 harvest, the grapes were selectively picked by hand. At the winery, the fruit was macerated and held cool for 24 hours before pressing; fermentation and subsequent élevage took place in stainless steel under reductive conditions.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast chicken, grilled or pan-fried fish, shellfish, or creamy vegetable dishes, allowing the wine’s fruit and mineral character to complement rather than overpower the food. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short spell of air in the glass should be sufficient; decanting is optional, though a little aeration may help the wine open up.
