Description

Weingut Ökonomierat Rebholz’s 2022 Birkweiler Riesling vom Rotliegenden is an organic village wine shaped by the distinctive red slate soils of Birkweiler Kastanienbusch. Sourced from younger vines lower on the slope, it offers a more accessible expression of a terroir whose finesse also defines the estate’s prized single-vineyard wines.

Production
The vineyard’s red Rotliegendes soils are described as unique within the Pfalz and prized for the finesse they bring to Riesling. The grapes are destemmed, crushed and pressed, then the must is left in contact with the skins for 24 hours before pressing. Fermentation and maturation take place in stainless-steel tanks. This combination of an initially oxidative must stage and a markedly reductive environment afterward is characteristic of Rebholz Riesling production.

Food & Serving
Try it with seafood, grilled fish, fresh goat’s cheese or vegetable dishes with herbs. Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C. Decanting is not essential; a little time in the glass can help the wine open up.
