Wegeler’s 2005 Bernkasteler Doctor Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a rare, half-bottle expression of one of the Mosel’s most celebrated vineyard sites. Made from individually selected, intensely concentrated grapes, this noble-sweet Riesling combines extraordinary richness with the vibrant acidity that gives great German dessert wines their remarkable longevity.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep golden hue, reflecting its maturity and concentration. Its expressive nose offers layers of ripe peach, apricot, honey and candied fruit, with a subtle mineral character adding lift and complexity. On the palate, it is richly sweet and full-bodied, yet beautifully balanced by refreshing acidity. A long, persistent finish brings notes of honeyed stone fruit and slate-like minerality. Now mature and highly enjoyable, this 2005 Trockenbeerenauslese still has excellent cellaring potential when stored properly. Its combination of sweetness, acidity and concentration allows it to develop further in bottle for many years.

Production
The grapes come from the steep, slate-rich slopes of the Bernkasteler Doctor, a historic Mosel vineyard renowned for producing finely balanced Rieslings. Trockenbeerenauslese is made from individually hand-selected, shrivelled grapes affected by noble rot, which concentrates their sugars, flavours and acidity. The wine is produced in small quantities and matured to preserve the harmony between its intense sweetness, aromatic depth and mineral freshness.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This elegant dessert wine is a natural match for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, apricot tart and pâtisserie, while its acidity also pairs beautifully with blue cheese or mature washed-rind cheeses. It can be enjoyed without decanting; opening it shortly before serving is generally sufficient, although a brief period in the glass will allow its aromas to unfold.
