Description

Vietti Verduno Pelaverga is a distinctive Piedmontese red made from Pelaverga Piccolo, one of Italy’s rarest and most characterful indigenous grapes. Produced in the Verduno area, it combines a light, elegant style with lively spice and aromatic appeal—an excellent choice for exploring lesser-known wines from the Langhe.

Tasting Notes
The wine typically presents a bright ruby-red colour and a fresh, inviting aroma profile. Expect fragrant notes of red berries, wild strawberries, violets and delicate peppery spice, with the variety’s characteristic aromatic lift. On the palate, it is light to medium-bodied, crisp and supple, with refreshing acidity, gentle tannins and a clean, subtly spicy finish. Best enjoyed in its youth, although careful cellaring for a few years can allow the fruit and savoury nuances to develop further.

Production
Pelaverga Piccolo is closely associated with Verduno and the surrounding Langhe hills, where vineyards benefit from a continental climate, good ventilation and marl-rich soils typical of the area. The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness and vinified to preserve their natural fragrance, freshness and delicate structure, generally with a restrained approach to oak so that the variety remains at the centre of the wine.

Food & Serving
Serve slightly cool, at approximately 14–16°C. Its bright acidity and moderate structure make it a versatile partner for Piedmontese specialities, charcuterie, antipasti, fresh pasta, mushroom dishes, roast poultry and mildly spiced foods. It is usually best enjoyed without decanting; simply open shortly before serving or give it a brief swirl in the glass.

Producer
Vietti is one of Piedmont’s renowned historic wineries, with roots dating back to the early 20th century and a strong reputation for expressing the character of Langhe varieties and terroirs. Based in Castiglione Falletto, the estate is particularly celebrated for its Barolo wines, while also championing distinctive regional grapes such as Pelaverga Piccolo. Its Verduno Pelaverga reflects this commitment to preserving Piedmont’s viticultural heritage in an elegant, accessible style.
