Vietti Barolo Riserva 2018

Vietti Barolo Riserva 2018 is a Nebbiolo made from a careful selection of cru vineyards, chosen to express the character of Serralunga d’Alba. This first release of Vietti’s Barolo Riserva balances refined aromatics with the region’s hallmark structure and notable ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Intense ruby red in colour, it opens with aromas of small, ripe red fruits, layered with delicate balsamic and citrus notes. The palate is full yet elegant, with lively acidity and well-integrated tannins that lead to a rounded, persistent finish. Its firm structure and carefully selected Nebbiolo fruit give it the potential to develop further in bottle. Enjoy now with appropriate aeration or cellar it for additional complexity.

Production
The Nebbiolo comes from selected cru vineyards in Serralunga d’Alba, where vines grow at around 350 metres on east-facing slopes in calcareous clay soils. The vines are trained using the Guyot system; harvesting methods are not specified. Some bunches are fermented whole, while the rest are destemmed and crushed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with around 20 days of skin maceration and pump-overs, followed by malolactic fermentation in wood and 24 months of ageing in large casks.

Food & Serving
Serve with robust dishes such as game, roast or braised red meat, and mature cheeses. A serving temperature of around 16–18°C should let its aromas and structure show well. Decanting for about an hour before serving can help the wine open up, particularly if enjoyed young.
