Description

A remarkable historic Riesling from the 1959 vintage, the Sanctus Jacobus Wiltinger Braune Kupp and Hölle Trockenbeerenauslese Cabinet is a rare expression of Mosel-Saar-Ruwer sweet-wine tradition. Made from carefully selected grapes and matured for decades, this 0.7-litre bottle offers collectors and enthusiasts the opportunity to experience a beautifully aged German dessert wine with exceptional provenance.

Tasting Notes
Deep golden to amber in colour, this mature Riesling presents an enticing bouquet of preserved ripe fruit, honey, dried stone fruit and delicate spice. With time in the glass, further notes of caramel, nuts and mature sweetness may emerge. The palate is rich, concentrated and full-bodied, balanced by the refreshing acidity that is characteristic of Riesling. Layers of honeyed fruit and spice lead into a long, persistent finish. At more than six decades old, the wine is fully mature and should be enjoyed for its developed character; provided it has been stored well, it may continue to offer pleasure for many years.

Production
The wine originates from the prestigious Wiltinger Braune Kupp and Hölle vineyards in the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer region, where steep slopes and a cool climate favour Riesling with both concentration and acidity. The grapes were harvested by hand in small quantities and selected with great care. Produced in the noble sweet Trockenbeerenauslese style, the wine was matured in oak vessels and allowed to develop over several decades, resulting in its depth and complexity.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C, allowing the wine to warm gradually in the glass and reveal its full aromatic range. It is an excellent match for foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée and mature hard cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but carefully standing the bottle upright before opening and gently decanting off any sediment can be beneficial; alternatively, open it slowly and pour with care.

Producer
Vereinigte Hospitien is a historic wine estate and charitable institution based in Trier, at the heart of Germany’s Mosel wine country. Its wines are associated with the region’s long-standing tradition of producing refined Riesling from distinguished vineyard sites. The Sanctus Jacobus bottling reflects this heritage, combining a renowned Mosel origin with the rarity and maturity of a 1959 vintage.
