Description

The Vinum Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2020 is a certified organic, classically styled Brunello crafted from Sangiovese Grosso grown on the sun‑drenched, south‑west facing slopes around Montalcino. The warm, stable 2020 vintage in Tuscany delivered perfectly ripe fruit with deep color, intense aromatics and beautifully polished tannins. Long aging in large Slavonian oak casks and extended bottle maturation give this wine its hallmark combination of power, elegance and impressive longevity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, The Vinum Brunello di Montalcino 2020 shows a deep, vibrant ruby core with garnet reflections starting to form toward the rim – a visual cue of both concentration and classic Brunello character. The nose is expressive and layered, opening with violets and wild red berries before moving into notes of sweet spice, leather and a gentle balsamic lift. On the palate, this is a focused and firmly structured Brunello, with dark and sour cherry at the core supported by nuances of licorice, mint, dried Mediterranean herbs and subtle cinnamon spice. The tannins are firm yet refined, wrapping the fruit in a fine, chalky grip, while the fresh acidity keeps everything lively and precise. The finish is long and persistent with lingering notes of cherry, herbal spice and a touch of leather, indicating a wine that will reward patience. Enjoyable now with a proper decant, it has the structure and balance to evolve gracefully for 10–15+ years in a good cellar.

Production
The Vinum sources its Sangiovese Grosso from organically farmed vineyards on Montalcino’s south‑west facing slopes, where abundant sunshine, well‑drained soils and cooling breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea create ideal conditions for slow, even ripening. Grapes are hand‑harvested in mid‑October to ensure optimal phenolic maturity and careful selection in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place at 26–28 °C with moderate remontage to extract color, aroma and structure without excessive harshness, followed by 15–20 days of skin contact and an extended maceration to polish the tannins. The young wine is then aged for a minimum of three years in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing slow, gentle oxygenation and the development of savory complexity, before spending at least 24 months in bottle prior to release.

Food & Serving
This is a natural partner for rich, savory dishes such as braised lamb shank, slow‑cooked beef cheeks, venison stews, wild boar ragù, or mushroom and truffle risotto. It also shines alongside aged Pecorino, hard sheep’s milk cheeses and dishes seasoned with rosemary, thyme and other Mediterranean herbs. Serve at 16–18 °C, ideally after decanting for 1–2 hours in its youth to allow the aromatics to unfurl and the tannins to soften; older bottles can be gently decanted just before serving to separate sediment while preserving delicate tertiary notes.

Producer
The Vinum is a quality‑focused producer dedicated to crafting characterful, terroir‑driven wines from some of Italy’s most renowned appellations, with a particular emphasis on organically farmed vineyards and traditional winemaking. In Montalcino, the estate’s philosophy centers on expressing the purity of Sangiovese Grosso through careful vineyard work, restrained extraction and classic aging in large Slavonian oak. While relatively modern in outlook, The Vinum respects the historic Brunello model of long maturation and age‑worthy structure, contributing to the region’s reputation for elegant, powerful wines that faithfully reflect their origin.
