Description

The Vinum Barolo Riserva DOCG 2010 is a rare and expressive snapshot of one of the greatest Barolo vintages in recent history. The cool, long 2010 growing season in Piemonte suited Nebbiolo perfectly, delivering wines of remarkable depth, freshness and longevity. As a Riserva, this Barolo has enjoyed extended aging before release, allowing its structure to soften and its complex, mature character to unfold in the glass.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, The Vinum Barolo Riserva 2010 shows a classic garnet-red core with pronounced orange reflections at the rim – a hallmark of gracefully maturing Nebbiolo. The nose is intensely aromatic and wonderfully evolved, with layers of dried rose petals, violet, tobacco, truffle, leather, roasted coffee and warm spices, all underpinned by a subtle balsamic note. On the palate, the wine is round, deep and silk-textured, with tannins that are now fully integrated and polished after long aging. Flavours of dried red cherry, plum and blood orange mingle with earthy truffle, cedar, tobacco and savoury spice, leading into a long, harmonious, balsamic-tinged finish. Already in a beautiful drinking window, this 2010 Riserva still has the structure and acidity to develop further complexity over the next 8–10 years if cellared well.

Production
The fruit for The Vinum Barolo Riserva DOCG 2010 comes from southwest-facing hillside vineyards around La Morra in Piemonte, a prized commune known for producing particularly elegant and perfumed Barolo. The Nebbiolo grapes are hand-harvested in mid-October, allowing for slow, even ripening in the cool 2010 vintage and optimal phenolic maturity. After a fermentation of 10–15 days at controlled temperatures, the wine is aged traditionally in large Slavonian oak casks for a minimum of five years, followed by at least two years of bottle aging. This long élevage polishes the tannins and builds the wine’s depth, while preserving the purity and typicity of Nebbiolo and the La Morra terroir.

Food & Serving
This is a classic meditation wine for rich, hearty cuisine. It shines alongside slow-braised dishes such as ossobuco, braised beef shank, game meats, truffle-based pasta, mushroom risotto and aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano Reggiano. Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the mature aromatics and layers of flavor to fully open. In large Burgundy-style or Barolo glasses, the wine’s complexity and refined texture are shown at their best.

Producer
The Vinum is a quality-focused producer working with classic Piedmontese varieties and traditional Barolo craftsmanship. By sourcing Nebbiolo from choice hillside parcels around La Morra and committing to extended aging in large Slavonian oak, The Vinum emphasizes purity, balance and regional character over trend-driven winemaking. This 2010 Barolo Riserva, awarded 92 points by James Suckling and 4.5 stars on Vivino, underscores the estate’s role in offering access to benchmark Barolo expressions from truly great vintages.
