Tenuta di Biserno’s Insoglio del Cinghiale 2024 is a captivating Tuscan red that perfectly balances modern polish with Mediterranean charm. Crafted by one of Italy’s most respected estates, it’s designed to be approachable in its youth while still offering depth, structure, and character. This cuvée has become a reference point for contemporary Tuscan blends, uniting Bordeaux varieties and Syrah in a style that is both refined and irresistibly drinkable.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Insoglio del Cinghiale 2024 shows a vibrant, deep ruby color with youthful purple highlights at the rim. The nose is immediately expressive, offering ripe red and black fruits—think wild berries, plum, and black cherry—layered with notes of Mediterranean herbs, violets, and a touch of spice and cedar from barrel aging.
On the palate, this is a medium- to full-bodied wine with supple, polished tannins and a generous core of juicy fruit. Flavors of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum are lifted by hints of black pepper, graphite, and savory herbs, leading into a fresh, persistent finish. Its bright acidity keeps it energetic and food-friendly, while the refined structure suggests it will evolve nicely over the next 5–7 years, drinking beautifully in its youth but gaining complexity with short- to mid-term cellaring.
Production
Insoglio del Cinghiale is sourced from Tenuta di Biserno’s vineyards in coastal Tuscany, where a mix of sandy, clay, and gravelly soils, combined with maritime breezes, creates ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties and Syrah to ripen slowly and evenly. Grapes are typically harvested by hand to ensure careful selection in the vineyard, preserving only healthy, perfectly ripe clusters. In the cellar, the varieties are vinified with gentle extraction to emphasize fruit, balance, and elegance rather than sheer power, with fermentation in temperature-controlled tanks. Maturation in a combination of stainless steel and oak (often used or carefully selected barrels) helps integrate tannins and add subtle complexity while keeping the wine’s fresh, vibrant profile front and center.
Food & Serving
This cuvée is a versatile partner at the table and shines alongside Tuscan-inspired dishes: grilled lamb chops with rosemary, bistecca alla fiorentina, wild boar ragù, or hearty pasta with mushrooms and aged pecorino. It also pairs beautifully with charcuterie, hard cheeses, and wood-fired pizza topped with cured meats. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in medium-sized red wine glasses. A brief decant of 30 minutes can help the 2024 vintage open up its aromatics and soften the young tannins, but it will also show very well simply poured and allowed to evolve in the glass.
Producer
Tenuta di Biserno is a prestigious Tuscan estate founded by Lodovico Antinori, a key figure behind some of Italy’s most celebrated modern wines. Located in coastal Tuscany, the estate was conceived specifically to explore the potential of Bordeaux varieties—such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and others—in a distinctive maritime terroir. Over the years, Tenuta di Biserno has gained a strong reputation for crafting wines that combine Tuscan soul with international finesse, regularly earning acclaim from critics and collectors alike. Insoglio del Cinghiale serves as one of the estate’s most approachable and beloved expressions, showcasing the house style in an accessible, food-friendly package.
