Description

Tarlant Champagne Zero Nature Magnum is a beautifully pure expression of Champagne, crafted without any added dosage so that the character of the fruit and the chalky soils can speak clearly. This non-vintage Brut Nature blends Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and rare heritage grapes—Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc—into a strikingly precise, dry and vibrant cuvée. In magnum format, it gains extra finesse and complexity, making it an ideal bottle for the table or for cellaring.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Tarlant Zero Nature shows a luminous, pale gold hue with a fine, persistent mousse that hints at its long lees aging. The nose is detailed and expressive: green and yellow orchard fruits, lemon zest, white flowers, and crushed chalk, layered with subtle notes of brioche, toasted nuts and a whisper of spice. There’s an almost saline, sea-breeze quality that underscores its mineral backbone. On the palate, this is bone-dry yet remarkably balanced, with vivid acidity wrapped around flavors of crisp apple, pear, citrus peel and stone fruit, accented by hints of almond, fresh bread dough and wet stone. The rare varieties (Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc) add lift, herbal nuance and a delicate complexity to the classic Chardonnay/Pinot core. The finish is long, chalk-driven and mouthwatering, with a clean, savory edge that invites another sip. In magnum, the wine tends to evolve more slowly and harmoniously; enjoyed now for its tension and energy, it also has the structure to age gracefully for 8–10 years from release, gaining more toast, honey and brioche complexity over time.

Production
The grapes for Tarlant Champagne Zero Nature are sourced from estate vineyards in the Champagne region, planted primarily on classic chalk and limestone soils with clay and sand in places, giving both tension and textural depth. Tarlant farms with a strong respect for nature—favoring sustainable, low-intervention methods and harvesting by hand at full physiological ripeness, which is crucial for a wine with zero dosage. The base wines are vinified parcel by parcel, often in a mix of stainless steel and neutral oak to preserve clarity while adding subtle texture. After assemblage of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, and the rare heritage varieties Arbane, Petit Meslier and Pinot Blanc, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and ages sur lie for an extended period before disgorgement. No sugar is added at disgorgement (zero dosage), resulting in a Brut Nature Champagne that is an unadorned reflection of its terroir.

Food & Serving
This ultra-dry, mineral-driven Champagne is extremely food-versatile and shines with clean, precise flavors. It pairs beautifully with oysters, crudo, sushi and sashimi, as well as simply prepared fish and shellfish—think scallops, grilled shrimp or sole meunière. It’s also excellent alongside goat cheese, young Comté, charcuterie, and vegetable-driven dishes such as asparagus, fennel or citrus-dressed salads. Serve well-chilled at about 8–10°C (46–50°F); slightly warmer temperatures will enhance its complexity at the table. A short decant (or simply opening the magnum 15–20 minutes before serving and pouring into good white wine or Champagne glasses) can help the wine open up aromatically, especially if it is youthful.

Producer
Tarlant is a historic, family-owned Champagne grower based in Œuilly in the Vallée de la Marne, with roots in the region dating back to the late 17th century. Among the earlier proponents of terroir-driven, low-dosage and grower Champagnes, the Tarlant family has long championed meticulous vineyard work and minimal-intervention winemaking as the keys to authentic expression. Over generations, they have assembled a mosaic of parcels across diverse chalk and limestone terroirs, and today they are recognized as one of the benchmarks for serious, characterful grower Champagne. Their commitment to sustainable viticulture, the preservation of rare local varieties, and the production of precise, gastronomic cuvées like Zero Nature has earned them a loyal following among sommeliers, collectors and Champagne enthusiasts worldwide.
