Description
Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2011 is one of the house’s most celebrated Blanc de Blancs cuvées, offering a more approachable and immediately generous expression of this prestigious Champagne than the tightly wound 2008. Crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, it reflects both the finesse of the Côte des Blancs and the long-standing prestige of Taittinger’s flagship wines.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold in the glass with a fine, precise mousse, this vintage opens with inviting aromas of orchard fruit, stone fruit, mandarin, and delicate pastry cream, lifted by nuances of blanched almonds. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, supple and creamy, with a fleshy texture balanced by vibrant acidity and a clean, elegant finish. With further bottle aging, it is expected to gain more toasty, roasted complexity while maintaining its crystalline structure and charm.
Production
Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger’s top Blanc de Blancs, sourced from exceptional Chardonnay vineyards in the Côte des Blancs, where chalk-rich soils lend tension, purity, and length. The 2011 vintage was harvested in a style that favored immediate expression over austerity, and the wine was vinified to preserve fruit clarity, finesse, and the signature precision of the house style before extended aging on the lees.
Food & Serving
An excellent match for lobster, scallops, fine sushi, roast poultry, or dishes with cream and almond accents. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not recommended; instead, let it open gradually in the glass to reveal its layered aromas.
Producer
Founded in 1734, Taittinger is one of Champagne’s most respected family houses and a benchmark for elegance, especially in Chardonnay-led cuvées. Comtes de Champagne is the house’s iconic prestige bottling, widely admired for its purity, refinement, and ability to age beautifully, reinforcing Taittinger’s status among the great names of the region.
