Description
A rare 1989 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck, one of the Rheingau’s renowned vineyard sites. With its combination of concentrated sweetness, refreshing acidity and decades of bottle age, this wine is a compelling choice for collectors and lovers of mature German dessert wines. Presented in a 0.75-litre bottle, it is equally suited to a special occasion or thoughtful gifting.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep golden hue, reflecting its age and concentration. Its aromatic profile is intensely mature and expressive, with notes of ripe apricot, peach, citrus preserve and honey. On the palate, it is full-bodied, richly sweet and fruit-driven, while fine acidity provides balance and keeps the wine lively. A long, lingering finish completes the tasting experience. Having reached significant maturity, this 1989 Trockenbeerenauslese is ready to enjoy, with further evolution dependent on its storage conditions.
Production
Made from Riesling grown in the Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck vineyard in the Rheingau, this style of Trockenbeerenauslese is produced from highly concentrated, late-harvested grapes, traditionally affected by noble rot. The resulting berries yield only a small amount of intensely sweet must, which is carefully vinified to preserve its rich fruit character and balancing acidity. The wine has benefited from extended maturation and cellar storage at Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, ideally at around 8–10°C. This richly sweet Riesling is a natural partner for fruit-based desserts, apricot or peach tarts, crème brûlée and blue or washed-rind cheeses. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative finishing wine. Decanting is generally not necessary, although carefully pouring the bottle off any sediment may be advisable if it has been stored for many years.
Producer
Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach traces its origins to the Cistercian monastery of Kloster Eberbach, founded in 1136, and has played a formative role in the history of Rheingau wine. Today, the estate is recognised for its historic vineyards and its focus on producing distinguished Riesling and Pinot Noir. Its long tradition, cellar expertise and connection to some of the region’s most celebrated sites make this mature Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck bottling a particularly noteworthy example of Rheingau wine heritage.
