Description
A rare and exceptionally concentrated sweet Riesling from the steep Baiken vineyard in the Rheingau, the Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach Baiken Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Cabinet 2011 combines opulent fruit with refreshing acidity. Produced in very limited quantities from carefully selected, sun-ripened grapes, it is a distinguished expression of one of Germany’s classic late-harvest wine styles.
Tasting Notes
Golden and richly coloured in the glass, this 2011 Trockenbeerenauslese opens with an intense bouquet of exotic fruit, honey and delicate spice. On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, revealing layers of ripe tropical fruit and honeyed sweetness supported by lively Riesling acidity. The finish is long, persistent and beautifully balanced. With its concentration and acidity, the wine has excellent cellaring potential and can continue to develop complexity over time.
Production
The grapes come from the steep, sun-exposed slopes of the Baiken vineyard in the Rheingau, where the conditions encourage exceptional ripeness and concentration. They were hand-selected at harvest to produce this rare Trockenbeerenauslese. The wine’s richness and aromatic intensity reflect the careful selection of highly concentrated grapes, while the natural acidity of Riesling preserves balance and freshness.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This luxurious sweet Riesling is an excellent match for fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée, blue cheese and other mature cheeses; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an elegant aperitif. Decanting is not essential, although a short period of aeration in the glass can help reveal its full aromatic depth.
Producer
Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach is one of Germany’s most historic wine producers. With roots in the former Cistercian Kloster Eberbach, founded in 1136, the estate has played a defining role in the development of Rheingau viticulture. Today, its wines are recognised for combining the region’s distinctive vineyard sites with precise craftsmanship, and its rare sweet Rieslings are particularly valued for their concentration, balance and ageing ability.
