Production
Beerenauslese is made from individually selected, exceptionally ripe grapes, often influenced by noble rot, which concentrates their sugars and aromas. The wine was produced from Riesling grown at the Heppenheimer Steinkopf in the Hessische Bergstraße, although detailed information on the vintage’s harvesting and vinification is not available. Its sweetness, concentration and pronounced acidity are characteristic of this celebrated German Prädikatswein style.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, allowing the wine to open gradually in the glass. Decanting is not usually necessary, but carefully standing the bottle upright before opening and pouring gently can help leave any age-related sediment undisturbed.

Kloster Eberbach is one of Germany’s historic wine estates, founded as a Cistercian monastery in the twelfth century and closely associated with the development of quality winegrowing in the Rheingau and surrounding regions. The estate later became part of the Hessian state winery tradition, represented here by Staatsweingüter Eltville. Its long heritage, historic cellars and reputation for producing ageworthy Riesling and other fine German wines make bottles such as this 1971 Beerenauslese especially significant.
