Description

A rare 1921 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese from Schloss Böckelheimer Kupfergrube, offered through a historic auction by the Staatl. Weinbaudomäne Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim. Produced from exceptionally concentrated, late-harvested grapes, this extraordinary Nahe wine reflects both the character of its renowned vineyard and the remarkable longevity of great Riesling.

Tasting Notes
The wine is described as showing a deep golden colour, with the visual development expected of a bottle of considerable age. Its complex bouquet combines ripe fruit with notes of honey and spice, while the palate is rich and full-bodied, balanced by a pleasant acidity and culminating in a long, persistent finish. As a historic 1921 bottle, it is best appreciated as a rare collectible and mature drinking experience rather than judged against the freshness of a young Riesling. The wine’s condition, storage history and level should be considered when assessing its current drinking potential; properly preserved examples may offer a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of fine Nahe Riesling.

Production
Sourced from the Schloss Böckelheimer Kupfergrube vineyard in the Nahe, the wine was made from grapes selected at the highest level of ripeness for a Trockenbeerenauslese. Such wines are traditionally produced from individually shrivelled, botrytised berries, resulting in intense concentration of fruit, sugar and flavour. The bottle carries the historic Cabinet Versteigerung designation and dates from the 1921 auction era; specific details of harvesting and vinification are not provided.

Food & Serving
Its richness and pronounced sweetness make it a natural partner for blue cheeses, mature hard cheeses and refined pâtés, while its acidity can also complement richly flavoured poultry or pork dishes. It may be served as a contemplative aperitif or alongside dessert, particularly fruit-based pastries and lightly spiced creations. Serve slightly chilled, around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, but careful standing and gentle pouring may help separate any sediment while preserving the wine’s delicate aromas.

Producer
The Staatl. Weinbaudomäne Niederhausen-Schloßböckelheim is a historic state-run wine estate associated with some of the Nahe’s most distinguished vineyards. Its holdings include the celebrated Schloss Böckelheimer Kupfergrube, a site known for producing expressive, long-lived Rieslings. This 1921 auction bottle is a particularly rare example of the region’s early twentieth-century wine heritage.
