Description
St. Urbans-Hof Nik Weis Goldtröpfchen Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese 2013 is a rare and highly concentrated Mosel sweet wine, made from individually selected, nobly shrivelled Riesling grapes. Presented in a 375 ml bottle, this exceptional dessert wine received 97 points from Falstaff and offers a remarkable combination of richness, sweetness and vibrant freshness. Trockenbeerenauslese represents one of Germany’s highest Prädikat categories, traditionally reserved for wines made from exceptionally ripe, botrytised grapes.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays a luminous golden colour, hinting at its impressive concentration and maturity. Its expressive bouquet reveals layers of ripe and dried fruit, honey and delicate spice, with the complex character expected from noble rot and late-harvest Riesling.
On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied and intensely concentrated, balancing its pronounced sweetness with lively Mosel acidity. Notes of ripe fruit and honey lead to a long, harmonious finish with excellent persistence. With its balance and concentration, the 2013 vintage has considerable ageing potential and can continue to develop beautifully in bottle.
Production
The grapes come from the celebrated Goldtröpfchen vineyard in the Mosel, a site renowned for producing refined, long-lived Riesling. For a Trockenbeerenauslese, only the most concentrated, shrivelled berries are selected, typically affected by noble rot, which naturally intensifies the fruit, sugar and aromatic complexity. The wine is made to preserve the balance between sweetness and the region’s characteristic bright acidity; specific harvesting and vinification details for this cuvée are not provided.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its concentration makes it an excellent partner for foie gras, blue cheese, fruit-based desserts, crème brûlée and pastries, while its acidity also allows it to complement spicy Asian cuisine. Decanting is generally not necessary, although a brief opening before serving can help reveal its layered aromas. The 375 ml format makes it particularly well suited to sharing after dinner or presenting as a special gift.
