Serego Alighieri Valpolicella Classico Superiore Montepiazzo 2022

Serego Alighieri Montepiazzo 2022 is a dry Valpolicella Classico Superiore that combines the elegance of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara with the distinctive character of an exclusive Molinara clone. Produced on the historic Serego Alighieri estates, the wine reflects more than 650 years of family heritage in Valpolicella and was awarded 91 points by James Suckling.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays an intense ruby-red colour. Its expressive nose reveals aromas of wild berries and cherry, complemented by nuanced notes of maraschino cherry, clove and vanilla from its traditional maturation in cherry-wood casks. On the palate, Montepiazzo is powerful yet elegant, with a rich, enveloping fruit character balanced by refreshing acidity. The finish is long and fruit-driven, with lingering spice and vanilla nuances. It is approachable now when properly served, while its structure and Superiore classification give it the potential to develop added complexity over the next few years.

Production
The grapes are sourced from the Valpolicella Classico area in Veneto, where the local soils and hillside environment help shape the wine’s authentic regional character. Montepiazzo is a blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, distinguished by the use of a protected Serego Alighieri Molinara clone. Following vinification, the wine is matured in cherry-wood casks, a rare traditional practice that contributes its characteristic spicy and vanilla notes.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C to highlight the wine’s balance between ripe fruit, acidity and spice. Decant for around one hour before serving, especially when enjoying the wine soon after opening. Its generous structure makes it an excellent partner for grilled red meat, roasts and mature, flavourful cheeses.
