Sella & Mosca Alghero Cabernet Marchese di Villamarina Riserva 2022

Sella & Mosca’s Marchese di Villamarina is a distinguished Alghero Cabernet Sauvignon Riserva, combining the grape’s deep structure with the freshness of Sardinia’s coastal climate. Named in tribute to a prominent Sardinian family, it is the historic estate’s flagship red and a long-standing expression of Cabernet in the region.

Tasting Notes
Deep in colour, it opens with aromas of black cherry and blackcurrant, followed by notes of tobacco, cedar, leather and balsamic herbs. The palate is full-bodied yet silky, with pronounced tannins, lively freshness and a persistent finish shaped by dark fruit and spice. Its firm structure and extended oak maturation give it the capacity to develop further in bottle. Enjoy it now after careful decanting, or cellar it to allow the tannins and savoury notes to evolve.

Production
The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Sella & Mosca’s coastal vineyards near Alghero, where sunny, breezy conditions and mild winters support slow, complete ripening. The vines grow in mineral-rich, iron-bearing clay soils interspersed with windblown sand and older geological deposits. The grapes are hand-harvested and selected, then destemmed, crushed and macerated on their skins during a temperature-controlled fermentation lasting around three weeks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for 14–18 months in small Tronçais oak casks, followed by a year in larger traditional casks and further rest in the cellar.

Food & Serving
Serve at 16–18°C, ideally after decanting for one to two hours to give the wine time to open. Its structure pairs well with grilled or roasted beef, lamb, game and slow-cooked dishes; aged hard cheeses are another fitting match.
