Description

A remarkable late-harvest Riesling from the celebrated Erbacher Marcobrunn vineyard, the 1976 Schloss Reinhartshausen Trockenbeerenauslese reflects one of Germany’s highest Prädikat quality levels. Harvested in a historic vintage and released from the estate’s cellars in 2018, this rare 0.7-litre bottle offers a captivating combination of concentrated sweetness, vibrant acidity and mature Rheingau character.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a deep, luminous golden hue, hinting at its considerable age and concentration. Its expressive bouquet layers ripe peach and apricot with honeyed nuances and the refined, complex notes that develop in a mature Riesling of this calibre. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, with luscious sweetness balanced by fresh, lively acidity. Concentrated stone-fruit flavours lead into a long, elegant finish, making the wine feel indulgent yet remarkably poised. Now mature and ready to enjoy, it may continue to develop in a well-stored cellar, although its balance and complexity make it especially rewarding today.

Production
The grapes were hand-selected from the steep slopes of the Erbacher Marcobrunn vineyard in the Rheingau, a site renowned for producing distinguished Rieslings. As a Trockenbeerenauslese, the wine represents an exceptionally concentrated style made from highly ripe, raisined grapes selected under stringent quality requirements. Harvested in 1976 and matured at Schloss Reinhartshausen before being removed from the estate cellar in 2018, it has had decades to develop its depth and harmony.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 10–12°C, allowing the wine’s aromatic complexity to emerge in the glass. It is superb as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with crème brûlée, tiramisu, foie gras and richly flavoured blue or washed-rind cheeses. Decanting is not essential, but carefully opening the bottle and allowing it a short period in the glass can help reveal its mature aromas; sediment may be present due to its age, so gentle handling is recommended.

Producer
Schloss Reinhartshausen is an established Rheingau estate associated with the production of expressive, long-lived Rieslings. Its Erbacher Marcobrunn wines are particularly prized for their concentration, elegance and ability to mature over decades. This 1976 Trockenbeerenauslese, preserved in the estate’s cellar until its 2018 release, is a rare example of the region’s historic sweet-wine tradition.
