San Michele Appiano’s Sanct Valentin Sauvignon is one of Alto Adige’s benchmark white wines, showing exactly why the region is so admired for aromatic, precise Sauvignon Blanc. It combines power and elegance with a rich, layered style that has made Sanct Valentin a reference point for lovers of premium Italian white wine.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright yellow-green hue that immediately signals freshness and vitality. The nose is expressive and refined, with aromas of yellow fruit, gooseberry, elderflower, and ripe red currant, all wrapped in a complex, generous bouquet.
On the palate, the wine is crisp and vibrant, yet also rounded and smooth, with a supple texture that adds depth to its lively acidity. The finish is long and elegant, suggesting very good aging potential for those who enjoy Sauvignon Blanc with both freshness and structure.
Production
Produced from 100% Sauvignon Blanc in Alto Adige, this wine reflects the cool-climate terroir of Trentino-Alto Adige, where altitude and mountain influences help preserve aromatic intensity and natural freshness. Around 80% of the wine is fermented in stainless steel and kept on the lees until the end of April, while the remaining portion is vinified partly in large oak casks and partly in tonneaux, adding nuance and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Sauvignon pairs beautifully with seafood, grilled white fish, asparagus, risotto with herbs, and refined poultry dishes, as well as fresh goat cheese and light vegetable-based cuisine. Serve chilled at around 8–10°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a short period in the glass will help reveal its full aromatic depth.
Producer
San Michele Appiano is one of Alto Adige’s most respected wineries, known for producing wines that combine regional identity with precision and quality. The estate has built a strong reputation for elegant, terroir-driven wines, and the Sanct Valentin line is widely recognized as one of its flagship collections, representing some of the best white wines in the region.
