San Michele Appiano Sanct Valentin Chardonnay is a powerful and expressive white wine from Alto Adige, crafted entirely from Chardonnay grown in one of Northern Italy’s most distinctive mountain terroirs. A flagship wine from a historic estate with more than a century of expertise, it combines ripe fruit, mineral tension, and refined oak complexity in a style that has made the Sanct Valentin range a benchmark for the region.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a straw-yellow color with bright green highlights, hinting at both freshness and depth. The nose opens with ripe fruit, vanilla, and subtle toasted notes, giving way to a layered aromatic profile that feels generous yet well defined. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with a creamy texture balanced by a pronounced mineral backbone. The oak ageing brings spice and roundness without overpowering the Chardonnay character, while the finish is long and memorable. It has the balance and concentration to age gracefully for several years, developing even more complexity with time.

Production
The grapes come from vineyards at 450–550 meters above sea level in Alto Adige, where chalky gravel soils and morainic sediments help shape the wine’s vibrant mineral character. The cooler mountain environment supports slow ripening and preserves freshness, while the fruit is vinified through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, followed by lees ageing in barriques and tonneaux. After nearly a year of maturation, the wine is blended and then rested for at least another six months in stainless steel to refine its texture and harmony.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with rich seafood, lobster, scallops, roasted chicken, creamy pasta dishes, and dishes with buttery or truffle-based sauces. Serve it at around 10–12°C to bring out both the freshness and the depth of flavour. Decanting is not essential, but a short aeration can help open the wine if served young.
