Description

San Marzano Talo Malvasia Nera Salento 2025 is an expressive red wine made entirely from Malvasia Nera di Brindisi, a traditional grape of southern Apulia. Produced under the Salento IGT designation, it combines the variety’s naturally aromatic character with a period of French oak ageing, resulting in a rich yet approachable style.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows an intense ruby-red colour. On the nose, it offers inviting aromas of ripe red fruit complemented by warm spice and subtle oak-derived complexity. The palate is full-bodied, with a pleasantly soft entry, generous fruit concentration and a long, persistent finish. Its supple structure makes it enjoyable in its youth, while the fruit, acidity and gentle oak influence should allow it to develop additional roundness over the next few years when stored in a cool, dark place.

Production
The grapes are sourced from Salento in Apulia, a warm Mediterranean area well suited to producing ripe, richly flavoured red wines. After harvesting, the grapes undergo temperature-controlled maceration and alcoholic fermentation with selected yeasts for approximately 10 days. The wine is then matured in French oak barrels for four to six months, a process designed to enhance the varietal character of Malvasia Nera without overshadowing its fruit and spice profile.

Food & Serving
Serve this versatile red at approximately 16–18°C. It pairs well with grilled or roasted red meat, hearty pasta dishes, oven-baked vegetables, aged cheeses and traditional Apulian specialities. Decanting is not essential, but a short 20–30 minute decant can help open the wine’s aromas and soften its texture when serving it young.

Producer
San Marzano is a leading producer from Apulia, established in 1962 by a group of local vine growers in the town of San Marzano di San Giuseppe. The winery has played an important role in promoting the character of Salento’s native grapes, particularly Primitivo and Malvasia Nera, while combining regional tradition with carefully controlled modern winemaking. Its Talo range reflects this focus on expressive, accessible wines rooted in the local landscape.
