Salcheto’s 2021 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva brings together Sangiovese, Sangiovese Grosso and Colorino in a full-bodied, structured expression of Tuscany. Made organically and vegan, it draws on the historic Governo all’uso Toscano method to lend extra concentration to the fruit; Salcheto has been making wine in Montepulciano since 1984.

Tasting Notes
A deep, concentrated red, it opens with aromas of cherry, spice, leather and tobacco. On the palate, ripe black cherry is layered with hints of praline, fig and thyme, while soft, aromatic tannins frame a firm finish with a fresh, fruit-led aftertaste. Its structure and Riserva maturation give it the capacity to develop further in bottle. It can also be enjoyed now with a little air, as the fruit and savoury notes come together in the glass.

Production
The grapes come from Salcheto’s high-altitude vineyards in Montepulciano, where the conditions are credited with giving them aromatic intensity. The estate follows organic and biodynamic principles. Fermentation uses Governo all’uso Toscano, a traditional method that incorporates lightly overripe, dried grapes to add concentration. The wine then matures for 18 months in oak casks of different sizes, followed by an extended period of bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. Its ripe fruit, savoury character and structured tannins make it a natural match for game, grilled or roasted red meat, and mature cheeses. Decant for about an hour before serving to allow the aromas to open.

Founded in Montepulciano in 1984, Salcheto is known for wines rooted in the character of the area and for its strong environmental focus. The estate works with organic and biodynamic practices, alongside initiatives aimed at energy self-sufficiency and planting willows.
