Description
Ruinart Blanc de Blancs NV Magnum is a pure Chardonnay Champagne that showcases the house’s signature finesse, freshness and mineral character in an impressive 1.5-litre format. First established in 1729, Ruinart is widely recognised as the world’s oldest Champagne house, and this non-vintage cuvée remains one of its defining expressions.
Tasting Notes
The Champagne has a bright, pale golden colour with subtle green highlights and a fine, persistent stream of bubbles. Its elegant nose opens with lemon, bergamot and other fresh citrus notes, followed by hints of pineapple, peach and delicate white flowers.
On the palate, the mousse is silky and creamy, balancing vibrant freshness with a refined chalky minerality. Lightly toasted brioche nuances add depth to the fruit and lead into a clean, persistent finish. It is delicious now, while its freshness and structure allow it to develop additional pastry and nutty complexity over the short to medium term when stored properly.
Production
The cuvée is made exclusively from Chardonnay, sourced predominantly from Premier Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. These chalk-rich soils help give the wine its characteristic brightness, elegance and mineral precision. As a non-vintage Champagne, it is blended to preserve Ruinart’s consistent house style from year to year; specific harvesting and maturation details are not provided.
Food & Serving
An excellent aperitif, Ruinart Blanc de Blancs also pairs beautifully with oysters, prawns, shellfish, sushi, sashimi and other delicate seafood dishes. Its citrus freshness works particularly well with lightly dressed salads, fresh goat’s cheese and refined fish preparations. Serve well chilled at around 8–10°C. Decanting is not normally necessary, although allowing the Champagne to open briefly in a large white-wine glass can reveal more of its floral and brioche character.
Producer
Founded in Reims in 1729, Champagne Ruinart is the oldest established Champagne house and one of the region’s most respected names. The house has built its reputation around Chardonnay-led wines, combining chalky vineyard sources with a distinctive emphasis on purity, finesse and elegance. Ruinart’s historic underground chalk cellars, known as the Crayères, are among the most celebrated in Champagne and reflect the producer’s long-standing connection with the region.
