Description
Robert Weil’s 2009 Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese is a rare and highly concentrated expression of one of the Rheingau’s most distinguished vineyard sites. Crafted from intensely shrivelled, noble-rot-affected Riesling berries, this luxurious sweet wine combines remarkable richness with the vibrant acidity that gives great German Riesling its extraordinary longevity.
Tasting Notes
The wine displays an intense golden-yellow colour, reflecting its concentration and maturity. Its complex bouquet opens with generous aromas of honey, ripe peach, apricot and citrus, complemented by the distinctive depth associated with botrytised Riesling.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and opulent, with luscious sweetness balanced by lively acidity. The flavours echo the nose, while the long, persistent finish leaves an impression of citrus freshness and honeyed fruit. With its concentration, balance and acidity, this 2009 Trockenbeerenauslese has excellent ageing potential and can continue to develop beautifully for many years when stored correctly.
Production
The Kiedrich Gräfenberg vineyard is one of the Rheingau’s celebrated sites, known for producing Rieslings of both intensity and precision. Trockenbeerenauslese is made from individually selected, naturally shrivelled grapes, often affected by noble rot, which concentrates the fruit’s sugars, aromas and flavours. These precious berries are harvested by hand in careful passes and gently pressed before fermentation, resulting in a small-production wine of exceptional richness and concentration.
Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. This elegant dessert wine is a natural partner for fruit-based desserts, apricot or peach tart, crème brûlée and blue cheeses, while its freshness also makes it a refined aperitif. Decanting is generally not necessary, although a short decant can help reveal additional aromatic complexity in a mature bottle.
Producer
Founded by Wilhelm Weil in 1867, Weingut Robert Weil has become one of the defining names of the Rheingau and is particularly renowned for its precise, age-worthy Rieslings from Kiedrich. The estate’s distinctive blue-label wines have long represented the region’s ability to produce both elegant dry wines and intensely sweet Prädikat wines. Its Kiedrich Gräfenberg bottlings are among the winery’s most prestigious expressions, prized for their concentration, balance and longevity.
