Ridge Vineyards Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 offers a more approachable expression of the high-elevation Santa Cruz Mountains fruit associated with the iconic Monte Bello. Made primarily from younger vines and blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it balances Cabernet’s depth with an earlier-drinking, graceful style.

Tasting Notes
Deep red with violet hues, it opens with an expressive bouquet of blackcurrant, blueberry and ripe blackberry, layered with liquorice, cedar, tobacco and subtle toasted oak. The palate is full and concentrated yet poised, with silky tannins and lively acidity; dark cherry, cassis, coffee and graphite carry through to a long, harmonious finish. Its structure and balance give it promising cellaring potential, while its accessible style makes it enjoyable before the wine reaches full maturity.

Production
The fruit comes from high-elevation vineyards in the Santa Cruz Mountains, including younger vines that contribute to the wine’s accessible style. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. After fermentation, the wine spends 20 months in American oak barrels, just over half of them new, adding depth and structure while preserving freshness and fruit.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with grilled or roasted beef, lamb, or a hearty mushroom dish. Decant for about an hour before serving to let the wine open up; a little more time in the glass will reveal additional aromatic detail.
