Re Manfredi Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Serpara 2019 is a bold, high-altitude expression of Aglianico from Basilicata, capturing both the power and precision that make this grape so compelling. Shaped by volcanic soils and the dramatic landscape of Mount Vulture, it delivers serious depth, structure, and a distinctly Southern Italian sense of place.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, насыщенный ruby to garnet hue, hinting at its concentration and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, with dark cherry, black plum, wild herbs, violets, spice, and a subtle smoky, volcanic note.
The palate is powerful yet composed, with firm tannins, vivid acidity, and rich flavors of black fruit, licorice, tobacco, leather, and mineral undertones. This is a wine built for time, and while already impressive, it has excellent aging potential to gain further complexity over the next decade or more.
Production
Produced in Basilicata from Aglianico grown in the volcanic terroir of Monte Vulture, the wine benefits from mineral-rich soils, elevation, and a climate that helps preserve freshness in this naturally robust grape. Harvest is typically carried out with careful selection to ensure ripe fruit and balanced structure. Vinification is geared toward extracting depth and character while preserving the grape’s natural tension, followed by aging that supports its firm tannic backbone and layered complexity.
Food & Serving
Serve this wine with rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, lamb shank, roasted game, mushroom risotto, or aged hard cheeses. A serving temperature of 16–18°C is ideal, and decanting for at least 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine’s aromas and structure to open fully.
Producer
Re Manfredi is one of Basilicata’s most respected producers, closely associated with showcasing the potential of Aglianico del Vulture on an international level. The estate has helped elevate the region’s reputation by focusing on wines that combine authenticity, precision, and age-worthy structure, earning recognition for both quality and character.
