In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby hue with impressive clarity. The nose is beautifully expressive, offering dark berries, black cherry, violet, crushed pepper, smoked meat, and a subtle earthy, herbal streak that is classic Syrah from the Rhône. The palate is medium-bodied but layered, with ripe dark fruit, savoury spice, and a firm mineral backbone. Tannins are refined yet present, giving the wine shape and excellent balance, while the finish is long, peppery, and persistent. This is a wine with very strong aging potential, and 2016 should continue to develop gracefully for many years, gaining more complexity and savoury nuance with time in bottle.
