Petra Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana Potenti 2023

Petra Potenti 2023 is a powerful, single-varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from Tuscany, made with grapes grown in the Potenti vineyard near Riotorto. Founded in 1997, Petra brings the character of this coastal Tuscan terroir to the fore in a wine that balances concentrated dark fruit with a long, savoury finish.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, it opens with intense aromas of blackberry jam, blueberry and black cherry. On the palate, a rich, full-bodied texture is framed by rounded tannins, with herbal and balsamic notes joined by hints of toasted spice and coffee.

Production
The Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Potenti vineyard in Riotorto, in an area closely associated with Bolgheri. The vines grow in clay and sandy soils with a small amount of limestone over a rocky subsoil; the sloping terrain and Guyot training help the grapes ripen evenly. Harvesting details and specific fermentation methods are not provided. After vinification, the wine matures in barrels for at least 18 months, followed by bottle ageing. It is described as having the potential to develop over 10–15 years.

Food & Serving
Serve with grilled or slow-roasted red meat, lamb, or mature hard cheeses—the wine’s dark fruit and firm structure can stand up to rich flavours. Serve at around 16–18°C. Decant for about an hour before serving to let the aromas open and the tannins soften.

The wine is made under the direction of oenologist Giuseppe Caviola and matured in barriques for 18 months before further development in bottle.
