Description

Peter Jakob Kühn’s 1999 Riesling Beerenauslese is a rare, half-bottle dessert wine from Germany’s prestigious Rheingau region. Made in the luxurious Beerenauslese style, it combines concentrated fruit, refined sweetness and vibrant acidity—an elegant choice for celebrations, gifting or leisurely after-dinner enjoyment.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a luminous golden-yellow colour. Its expressive bouquet offers ripe peach, apricot and honey, with the maturity of the 1999 vintage adding depth and complexity. On the palate, it is rich and full-bodied, balancing generous sweetness with refreshing Riesling acidity. Citrus nuances and a subtle mineral character emerge on the long, intense finish. With its concentration, acidity and age, this wine has excellent cellaring potential when stored carefully, while already offering considerable complexity today.

Production
Beerenauslese is one of Germany’s most prestigious Prädikat categories, traditionally made from individually selected, highly ripe Riesling berries, often affected by noble rot. The Rheingau’s warm exposures, slate- and quartzite-influenced soils and cool climate help create wines with both concentration and lively acidity. Specific harvesting and vinification details for this 1999 bottling are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its sweetness and acidity make it a natural partner for crème brûlée, tiramisu, fruit tarts, apricot-based desserts and refreshing fruit sorbets; it can also be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or digestif. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although carefully pouring the wine into a small carafe may help separate any mature sediment and allow the aromas to open.

Producer
Peter Jakob Kühn is a respected Rheingau estate based in Oestrich, a historic wine village on the banks of the Rhine. The estate is known for expressive Rieslings that reflect the region’s distinctive terroir and for a quality-focused approach to vineyard work and winemaking. This mature Beerenauslese showcases the cellar potential and elegance for which top Rheingau Riesling is renowned.
