Description

Peter Jakob Kühn’s 1996 Riesling Beerenauslese is a beautifully mature sweet wine from Germany’s Rheingau, presented in an elegant 375 ml bottle. Made from individually selected, highly concentrated grapes, it combines luscious fruit, balancing acidity and remarkable longevity—hallmarks of fine Beerenauslese.

Tasting Notes
The wine shows a deep golden colour, reflecting more than two decades of careful bottle maturation. Its rich bouquet is led by honey, ripe peach and apricot, with the mature complexity expected from a well-aged sweet Riesling. On the palate, it is generous and sweet, yet kept lively by refreshing acidity. Concentrated stone-fruit flavours develop into a long, lingering finish. This is a mature wine that is ready to enjoy now and should continue to evolve positively when properly stored.

Production
Beerenauslese is produced from exceptionally ripe Riesling grapes selected berry by berry, often with the influence of noble rot, which concentrates sugars, aromas and flavour. The Rheingau’s combination of steep vineyard sites, river-influenced conditions and a suitable autumn climate has long made it one of Germany’s great regions for elegant, age-worthy sweet wines. Specific details concerning the 1996 harvest and vinification are not available.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled at approximately 8–10°C. Its honeyed fruit and refreshing acidity make it a natural partner for fruit-based desserts, apricot or peach tart, crème brûlée, blue cheese and foie gras. It can also be enjoyed on its own as a sophisticated aperitif. Decanting is generally unnecessary, although careful pouring or a brief opening before serving can help the mature aromas unfold.

Producer
Peter Jakob Kühn is a respected Rheingau estate known for expressive Rieslings that balance concentration with freshness and mineral character. The winery has played an important role in the region’s modern quality movement and is particularly recognised for its commitment to sustainable and biodynamic viticulture. Its wines are valued for their precision, individuality and ability to mature gracefully.
