Description
Paul Schneider’s 2023 Pinot Gris Grand Cru Steinert combines the grape’s generous texture with the freshness and mineral depth of one of Eguisheim’s acclaimed Grand Cru sites. Made entirely from Pinot Gris, it is a concentrated, elegant Alsace wine that reflects the character of its limestone-rich terroir.
Tasting Notes
The wine has an intense golden appearance. Its aromatic profile brings together ripe yellow fruit, white peach, pineapple and mango, followed by layers of mirabelle plum and spice on the palate. Dry and full-bodied yet lively, it finishes with pronounced minerality and length.
With a stated ageing potential of 10–12 years, it can be enjoyed young for its fruit and freshness or cellared to allow further complexity to develop.
Production
The grapes come from the Steinert Grand Cru in Eguisheim, where limestone-rich soils contribute depth and a distinct mineral character. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Gris and has 14% alcohol and 3.9 g/l residual sugar. Details about harvesting methods and vinification are not provided.
Food & Serving
Its concentration and freshness make it a versatile partner for foie gras, spiced dishes, Asian-inspired cuisine, white meats and mature cheeses. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, to bring out both its aromatic richness and mineral lift. A short time in the glass should be sufficient; decanting is optional.
