Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is Ornellaia’s elegant second wine, bringing the character of Bolgheri to a classic Bordeaux-inspired blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Created in 1997, it is made with the same care as the estate’s flagship wine, while expressing the fruit of its younger vineyards; this magnum format is well suited to sharing or cellaring.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, it opens with ripe red-fruit aromas layered with spice and balsamic hints of eucalyptus and cypress. The palate is harmonious and flavourful, with a supple tannin structure, refreshing lift and a firm underlying frame.

Production
The grapes come from Ornellaia’s younger vineyards in coastal Bolgheri, where Mediterranean conditions and cooling sea breezes encourage balanced ripening. A mix of sand, clay and gravel soils contributes freshness and depth. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted twice before gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation begins in steel and finishes in wood; the varieties are matured separately for around 15 months before blending and further rest.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C with roast lamb, grilled beef, slow-cooked game or hard, aged cheeses. Decant for about an hour before serving to let the aromas open, particularly if enjoying the wine young. Its structure and freshness also make it a good candidate for further bottle ageing.
