Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Superiore is the estate’s flagship wine, crafted from a meticulous selection of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot grown on the property. First born in 1985, it has become one of Tuscany’s most celebrated modern reds, known for combining power, elegance, and exceptional detail in the glass.

Tasting Notes
Expect a deep, concentrated ruby color with impressive richness and clarity. The nose typically opens with ripe dark berries, black cherry, plum, graphite, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle notes of spice, tobacco, and cedar. On the palate, Ornellaia is layered and refined, with polished tannins, vibrant acidity, and a long, sustained finish. The blend brings structure from Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, generosity from Merlot, and aromatic depth from Petit Verdot. While already expressive in youth, it has the balance and concentration to age beautifully for many years.

Production
Ornellaia comes from the Bolgheri area of coastal Tuscany, where gravelly, well-drained soils and the moderating influence of the Tyrrhenian Sea create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties. The grapes are carefully selected from the estate’s best parcels and harvested by hand to preserve fruit quality and precision. Vinification is carried out with a focus on purity, structure, and balance, followed by élevage designed to enhance complexity and finesse.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with richly flavored dishes such as grilled beef, lamb, venison, truffle pasta, and braised short ribs. It also works well with mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young to allow the aromatics and structure to fully open.
