Description
Oak Trail Zinfandel 2021 is a charming Californian red that delivers generous body, ripe dark fruit, and outstanding value. Made primarily from Zinfandel with a touch of Petite Sirah, it captures the warm, expressive style that has made California Zinfandel a classic for lovers of bold, approachable reds.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a ruby-red color with a slight purple hue. The nose is filled with sun-ripened aromas of red and dark berries, lifted by spice and a hint of oak.
The palate is full, soft, and intensely fruit-driven, with flavors of blackcurrant, ripe plum, and sweet spice. It finishes long and smooth, with plenty of lingering fruit. Thanks to its structure and oak influence, it has enough richness to enjoy now, while still holding up well over the next few years.
Production
Zinfandel thrives in California’s warm, dry summers and cool winter conditions, where daytime heat is balanced by evening breezes that extend the ripening season. The grapes for this wine come from old, gnarled vines aged between 30 and 100 years, rooted in very well-drained sandy soils that help concentrate flavor in the small, intensely colored berries. After harvest, the wine was aged for 10 months in a combination of French and American oak barrels, with Petite Sirah added to deepen the structure and color.
Food & Serving
This is a versatile red for hearty everyday dishes such as barbecue, grilled meats, lamb, burgers, or rich pasta dishes. It also works well with spiced sausages and mature cheeses. Serve at 15-16°C, and decanting is optional but can help open up the aromas if you want a softer, more expressive glass.
Producer
Oak Trail is presented here as a Californian producer focused on delivering generous, fruit-forward wines with broad appeal. While detailed historical information is limited, the wine reflects the region’s long-standing reputation for expressive Zinfandel and the classic style that has helped make California one of the world’s most important wine regions.
