Nino Negri’s Valtellina Sfursat Carlo Negri is a distinctive Alpine expression of Nebbiolo, made in the traditional sfursat style from carefully dried grapes. Elegant yet powerful, it combines the fragrance and structure of the grape with the intensity and concentration that have made Valtellina one of Italy’s most characterful wine regions.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color with garnet reflections. The nose is layered and inviting, with notes of dried cherries, wild berries, rose petals, spices, and a subtle earthy-mineral edge. On the palate, it is concentrated and refined, with firm but polished tannins, lively acidity, and flavors of dark cherry, plum, licorice, and savory spice. The finish is long and persistent, and while it can be enjoyed young for its energy and perfume, it also has excellent aging potential thanks to its structure and balance.

Production
The grapes come from the steep terraced slopes of Valtellina in Lombardy, where alpine exposure, well-drained soils, and dramatic day-night temperature shifts help preserve freshness and aromatic lift. The sfursat method involves drying the Nebbiolo grapes before fermentation, concentrating flavor, sugar, and texture before a careful vinification that emphasizes finesse rather than heaviness.

Food & Serving
This is an ideal match for rich dishes such as braised beef, game, roasted lamb, aged cheeses, and mushroom-based pasta. Serve at around 16–18°C, and consider decanting for about an hour to allow the wine’s aromatics and structure to open fully.
