Description

Neumeister’s Morillon Ried Moarfeitl comes from one of the oldest vineyards in the family’s estate and a site at the summit of the Steirische Terroir- und Klassikweingüter (STK) quality hierarchy. Its GSTK classification marks it as a top single-vineyard wine, made from Chardonnay—known locally as Morillon—in a distinctive high-plateau site.

Tasting Notes
The nose is powerful yet finely poised, led by delicate fruit and subtle spice rather than overt oak. Hints of star anise and Darjeeling tea add an intriguing, gently sweet-spiced character. On the palate, a light, supple texture carries the wine forward; further tasting details and specific aging guidance are not available.

Production
The Moarfeitl vineyard sits on a high plateau, where Chardonnay vines have grown since 1990 in calcareous sand and clay soils. Following a 12-hour maceration, the must ferments in small oak barrels. The wine then matures for 18 months in larger, previously used vessels, allowing the site’s character to show without pronounced oak influence.

Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 11–13°C, with roasted poultry, creamy risotto, or grilled white fish. A brief rest in the glass should help open its aromatic detail; extended decanting is not necessary.
