Description

Moët & Chandon Dom Perignon 2012 Giftbox is a Chardonnay and Pinot Noir Champagne with pear, lemon, cream and long lees depth from Épernay's chalk country. This is a serious gift bottle with real tension under the polish. The 2012 vintage gives Dom Pérignon a compact core of fruit, fine mousse and a saline finish that keeps building in the glass.

About the Wine
Dom Pérignon 2012 comes from a Champagne season that gave the cellar very little room for routine selection. Spring frost, hail and disease pressure cut the crop, then late summer brought the ripeness needed for a powerful vintage wine. The fruit for this Moët & Chandon prestige cuvée is Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown on chalk and limestone soils, with the house based in Épernay and drawing on its long-established network of top Champagne vineyards. The sustainable certification matters here as a practical vineyard standard rather than a slogan on the box. In the glass, that small 2012 crop reads as density, citrus oil and a firm pear note rather than simple volume. In the cellar, Dom Pérignon 2012 is built as a vintage Champagne from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, then matured in bottle on its lees for a minimum of seven years before disgorgement. That long lees ageing gives the wine its creamy bead, toasted-bread scent and buttered pastry edge. The dosage is 6 g/L, which keeps the finish dry in feel and lets the chalky, iodine-like line stay visible. Moët & Chandon has packaged this release in a giftbox, a fitting frame for a cuvée that carries both the Dom Pérignon name and the muscular imprint of 2012. A faint nutty note appears after air, then lemon peel and pear skin return on the last sip.

Tasting Notes
Dom Pérignon 2012 opens with pear, lemon peel and a quiet smoky reduction that needs a little time in the glass. The mousse feels creamy and close-knit, with buttered toast, honeycomb and crushed chalk running through the middle rather than sitting on top of the fruit. Chardonnay brings citrus precision and white-flower lift, and Pinot Noir adds breadth through ripe orchard fruit, pastry and a faint almond note. The finish is saline, vinous and energetic, with the 6 g/L dosage giving shape rather than sweetness. Drink 2024-2040.

Food Pairing
The scale and lees depth of Moët & Chandon Dom Perignon 2012 Giftbox make it a strong match for seafood with richness rather than very delicate raw shellfish. Try seared scallops with brown butter, grilled turbot with lemon and fennel, or lobster with a light beurre blanc. For a Champagne regional pairing, serve it with jambon de Reims or a warm Chaource tart, where the creamy texture meets the wine’s chalky, saline finish. It also has enough Pinot Noir breadth for roast chicken with morels, aged Comté, or fine charcuterie cut thin and served cool.

Producer
Moët & Chandon is rooted in Épernay, and Dom Pérignon sits within the house as a separate vintage Champagne with its own identity and release rhythm. The cuvée takes its name from the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, and the modern prestige label began with the 1921 vintage released in the 1930s. Its defining rule is simple and demanding: Dom Pérignon is made from a single declared year, so a bottle such as the 2012 carries the shape of that harvest in a direct way. The blend is always based on Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with the final balance chosen for the Dom Pérignon style rather than for a fixed grape formula. Richard Geoffroy shaped many celebrated releases during his long tenure as chef de cave, and Vincent Chaperon now leads the work with the same focus on vintage expression. In this 2012 giftbox release, Moët & Chandon presents a Champagne that feels unmistakably Dom Pérignon through its creamy mousse, chalky line, ripe citrus and long lees-aged breadth.
